My mission is to support people on their journey to better health and well-being with holistic, tailor-made acupuncture treatments that promote physical, emotional, and energetic balance.

What is Acupuncture?
Traditional Acupuncture has been around for over 2,500 years. Energy, known as Qi, flows throughout the body along pathways known as meridians. Fine hair-like single use sterile needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points along these meridians to stimulate the body's own healing processes and balance in the body.
Acupuncture treats imbalances in the body that lead to physical and mental ill health. In Western medicine, acupuncture is scientifically recognised to release endorphins which help with reducing pain and other chemicals which help with things like reducing inflammation and stress, balancing hormones and calming the nervous system.
Acupuncture is used to treat a wide variety of conditions including pain and aches, insomnia, hormonal balance, headaches and migraines, fatigue, digestive issues, menstrual issues, anxiety and depression. Evidence of the use of acupuncture is growing. Click on the button below to access the British Acupuncture Council Research Fact Sheets for more information. What's involved?
"The greatest wealth is health."

Cupping Therapy
Traditional Cupping Therapy is often used in acupuncture treatments to help with muscle tension, blood flow and sports related issues. It can also be used to help with asthma or to relieve cold viruses. Muscle/fascia tissue is sucked up into special cups and either left in situ or glided to relieve tension. You may have seen athletes with circular marks on their back- this is from the cups but fades over a few days to a week.
Gua sha
Gua sha involves using a tool which scrapes oiled skin to increase circulation to an area and to decrease inflammation. It is often used to help with stiffness and pain. Little red marks called petechiae often appear on the skin which fade after a few days to a week.
Holistic Approach
With traditional Chinese medicine, a person is treated as a whole, not as individual symptoms. A wide range of questions are asked to try to ascertain the root cause of the symptoms, in order for a treatment to be it's most helpful. This means time is taken to discuss your health concerns, health history, lifestyle and an in-depth consultation will be taken before your treatment. I also take your pulse and look at your tongue as traditional Chinese medicine learns a lot about the body from the tongue and pulse. I may provide lifestyle advice including exercise and diet.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How should I come prepared for receiving treatment? Wear loose clothing that can be easily rolled up on the limbs. I have towels to protect your modesty if you need to remove items of clothing. Make sure you eat something light before coming for treatment. Bring a list of medications you are taking.
- What if I don't want certain areas needling? No problem. I will only needle where you are comfortable having the needles.
- Are the needles painful? No, acupuncture should not be painful. When the hair-thin needles are inserted, you may feel a tingle, a strong sensation that lasts a second or a dull ache. they are much thinner than an injection needle!
- What happens in the first appointment? I will take a full case history, asking you about you current and past health and your treatment goals. I will ask lots of questions about your health to get a holistic view. Normal questions include asking about your bowel movements, sleep or energy level. I will take your pulse on both wrists and look at your tongue. I may physically examine you. The needles stay in for 20 - 30 minutes and some people fall asleep as they find it relaxing!
- How will I feel afterwards? You may feel relaxed, sleepy, calm or light headed, especially after the first treatment.
- How many treatments do I need? This varies per individual. Minor conditions may need under 6 treatments. Chronic conditions may need over 8. Treatments are spaced close together at first (often weekly) and then spread out as your condition improves. Some people with long term conditions benefit from coming for maintenance treatments once their condition is more stable.
- How quickly will I see results? Some people respond quickly and others respond slower. Some people feel better after just one.

Patient Testimonial
"Last year I was suffering from temporomandibular disorder - pain in the jaw joint when eating accompanied by noticeable loud cracking and I could hardly open my mouth. It was even difficult to get a toothbrush in my mouth. After each session with practitioner Emma, the pain and stiffness diminished and then the day following my third treatment, BINGO! I could open my mouth to the full extent. Now there is no more pain or loud cracking, I don't just have to eat soft food, and as an added bonus, my urinary niggles have vanished too." Ms C
